Beyond the Simulation: The Gaps Between 0 and 1

Archive Start: This is the Life archive. It captures the perspective, hobbies, and thoughts of Dongjae Kim as an individual living in a complex world, distinct from the researcher persona.

When simulating vast markets and modeling the behaviors of thousands of consumers with data, the world can sometimes feel like a set of predictable variables. However, reality is always more complex than any model and more beautiful than any dataset.

๐Ÿ“Œ The Context: The Aesthetics of Unpredictability

In the lab, we control variables to minimize error margins. But in the field of life, it is those Uncontrollable Variables that make us most human. An unexpected landscape on a trip, an unplanned photography session, or the resonance of a good bookโ€”these are values that cannot be captured in a dataset.

โš™๏ธ The Approach: Viewing the World Through a Viewfinder

I often look at the world through a camera viewfinder instead of a computer monitor.

I believe that balancing these two worlds is a prerequisite for being a โ€˜good researcher.โ€™ Here, I intend to record the process of finding that balance through photos, essays, and short thoughts, rather than codes or academic papers.

๐Ÿš€ The Goal: A Comma for Sustainable Research

The Life section serves as a โ€˜commaโ€™ and a โ€˜buffer zoneโ€™ to make intense research activities sustainable. When stuck designing complex algorithms, I hope the records of these empty spaces will become a new Source of Inspiration.
